A 57-mile linear park following an abandoned railroad, Southern Virginia's New River Trail is one of the premier rail-trails in the United States. Officially designated a National Recreation Trail by the US Department of the Interior, this popular recreation area features a gentle slope that makes it a great setting for biking, hiking and horseback riding. Parallelling the New River for over 39 miles, the scenic path intersects with numerous rental facilities, where visitors can attain kayaks, canoes, bikes, tubes and safety gear.
